keekaroo vs. stokke

We have two kids ages 5 and 7. When the oldest was 2 1/2 we got him a stokke kinderseat and gave the baby his highchair. At the time I read that it was important for a child to feel comfortable at the table and able to seat themselves at the table- that this helped them pay more attention the meal eat better etc. This seemed to be true. Two years later we got our DD a Stokke too- that way (in addition to the other benefits) we could have six people around our kitchen table, 4 in chairs and 2 kids in stokkes. My kids still use their stokkes to this day. We tried to switch to regular chairs but they did not want them! The Stokkes have held up very well. I could easily get my money back for them on Craigslist so I feel it was a wise and worthy investment.Our Son needed a desk chair so we wanted to get him another stokke because of the ergonomic support since we got a regular table height desk. I did not want his attention to be affected by a seat that swivelled or by his feet dangling etc. Those stokkes are now $300 bucks- yikes. So- The Keekaroo.Some things we noticed- first thing after we put the keekaroo together our kids stuck their arms through the hole in the back and wrenched their arms - OK they learned that didn't feel good they don't do it any more. The design of the legs is not as elegant as the stokke. There is all this cross bracing down there. hmmm, I suppose it makes no difference as to it's function. The finish seems to scratch pretty easily. There were some warning labels and brand labels on the back easily peeled off and the remains rubbed away with orange oil solvent. The Stokke warning label was much larger and harder to get off by comparison.Then when we put the seat on carpet it would not slide at all we had to get some rectangular furniture sliders. Otherwise the seat feels the same to sit in and adjusts the same. Serves it's purpose as a comfortable, ergonomic, stable desk chair. If I had the extra $150 bucks to burn I'd buy another Stokke. For the savings I suppose I'm happy with what I have.(People always worry about the child safety straps on these seats. I never installed the straps. I say if a kid needs to be strapped in- it might be best to stay in the highchair. My kids always climbed into their own chairs. We've never needed a cushion either never had a complaint about comfort with these.)

Keekaroo is a keeper!

I bought one of these chairs for my 2 year old after lots of research online. We bought the Mahogany finish with the cushions. My son loved it, it seemed sturdy (he couldn't kick it over by pushing off the table with his legs), it was comfortable, and it looked nice. My son enjoyed it so much that we bought a second Keekaroo a month later for my then 4 year old daughter. It is now a year later and I just wanted to report back that both chairs are still in use, still enjoyed by my kids, and the chairs have held up extremely well. They have survived with flying colors through a move and use twice a day everyday and still look great! I had been concerned about scratching & the finish coming off but we have not experienced that at all. The finish on the cushions is comfortable yet super easy to wipe clean and has held up very well.When we first bought the Keekaroo we used the straps for our 2 year old, but recently we decided they weren't being used very often and removed them. I love that it is easy to reconfigure this chair (straps, no straps, cushions, no cushions) depending on our needs at the time. I *highly* recommend this chair as an alternative to the Stokke (which my sister has - the cushions on that are fabric, ick! She has to wash them practically daily to keep them clean and they have gotten slouchy), or an alternative to a booster (that is what my 4 year old had before we purchased the Keekaroo, and she complained since her feet couldn't touch the floor - she says the Keekaroo is much more comfortable). The Keekaroo is more than worth the money.

Great high chair~

I really love this chair - it's got a great price point and when compared to Stokke or the other wooden brands, it's just as nice!It was super easy to put together, and the mahogany color is nice. Gave it 4 stars because the wood chips easily, though.
