great nights sleeping and my issues addressed...

My baby has slept very well using this rock 'n play. I will continue using it with him and would again in the future. It's soft, snuggly, can be rocked if he fusses, and isn't large and cumbersome in our room. It also folds up easily making it a cinch to transport anywhere.However, I will say... I took off a star because I am experiencing some of the dreaded issues everyone is talking about. My rock 'n play started growing mold, and my baby developed a partially flattened right side of his head. Let me explain...my little one is a very warm sleeper, and that's all it takes to create an environment to grow mold. It doesn't necessarily take vomit or urine or accidents or spit up or whatever else. It takes warmth and moisture. Due to my baby sleeping like a hot box, little did I know, the perfect environment was being created to grow this mold. The plastic casing this rock 'n play is made of moistens up as well as the snuggly fabric baby lays on causing the thin piece of fabric separating these two to not dry out, over time growing mold. Unfortunately, I didn't realize or get the recall in time, and mine began growing mold. I had to clean it, which is cumbersome since it does not remove, and now unhook and lift the sleeping part to air it out every few days. Some people may not want to go thru the hassle or worry about the mold, hence minus the star. I don't mind because my little one sleeps so well that I'll go thru the trouble. As for the other issue with his head... I realize babies will get flat spots no matter where they lay. Mine did get a flatter right side of his head because he always slept with his face turned that direction. I noticed and have since accommodated for it by having him nap in his crib instead of the rock 'n play and a few other ways. We caught this quickly enough and can help it remedy itself. Some parents may not want the worry. Hence, minus the star.So, if you have read my concerns and aren't worried about the extra effort put forth to keep and use this product, then go for it. Your baby will probably love it. If you'd rather not deal with the possibility of mold (obviously it's not happening to everyone) or the potential for a flat head (also not happening to everyone), then you might want to pass and go with something else.

One of my favorite baby items!

First of all, I rarely write reviews unless the product is really something that I feel I couldn't live without. This is one of those products. When I was working on my baby registry, I read all of the reviews, searched out the most necessary products, and tried hard to not "over register". I didn't want a house full of baby stuff that my baby wouldn't be able to use once he reached 20 pounds. This was one of the things that I felt that we COULD live without, and I didn't register for it. I planned to have my baby sleep in the pack n' play in our bedroom until we were ready to move him to his own crib. Thank GOD that one of my friends, who had recently had a baby, purchased this as a shower gift anyway.As it turns out, my little guy would not sleep in the pack n' play, even though the mattress was at a bit of an incline. Even swaddled he would wake up the second that we put him down in there. So we turned to the rock 'n play sleeper, which we lovingly call his "bunny bed". Since we brought him home from the hospital he has been sleeping in his bunny bed. He looks cozy in it, and it seems as though he feels "held" when he's in it. It's deep enough that even now, at 4 months old, he's still able to sleep comfortably in it. Not only is he comfortable, but I feel he is safe. He has a minor case of reflux, and he will occasionally spit up in his sleep. With the incline of this bed, I feel safe that when he sleeps he will not choke.Also the sleeper folds up easily and is perfect for travel. We take it with us for day trips & overnight trips so that he has a place to nap during the day and sleep overnight. Because he's so used to sleeping in it, he has no trouble sleeping when we stay overnight at his grandparents' house. (It's waaaaay easier to pack up than the pack n' play.)The sleeper is also affordable compared to other bassinets and co-sleepers. It is the perfect height to push up right next to our bed. It's just like having a co-sleeper, but we can easily move it to other rooms of the house if we'd like to have him nap near us downstairs, etc.Also - when my little guy wakes up in the middle of the night, all I have to do is reach over and give the sleeper a push and he is rocked back to sleep. Now that he's getting bigger, when he wakes up and wiggles he basically rocks himself back to sleep!This product is very similar in shape to the snugabunny swing, which we do also have. That was an item that I felt we couldn't live without... and we probably could have. (haha... you live and learn!) The swing is nice of course, because it can swing continually... but you don't want to create a baby that is dependent on constant movement to sleep. He has always liked watching the birds that fly around and listening to the music. So I'm glad we have it. But the sleeper has been the more useful of the two.The ONLY negative thing that I could possibly say is... my little guy loves sleeping in his bunny bed so much that transitioning to a crib might be a bit tough. We've been trying to take naps in the crib to get used to it... but he misses his bunny bed! What more is there to say?? He's a fan.

Great for babies who are sick or have reflux

Two years ago a friend gave us an older version of the newborn sleeper (Fisher-Price Newborn Rock 'N Play Sleeper, Yellow). I had read plenty of reviews where people said their child ended up with a flat head after using the sleeper so I really didn't want to use it with our daughter. We had already been through the baby flat head problem with our first two children and I was determined to keep it from happening to our youngest daughter. For the first two months we avoided using the sleeper altogether. Then our daughter got sick with bronchiolitis and we needed something that would cradle her better than a bouncy seat and keep her upright enough that she could still breathe easily. In desperation we pulled out the rock 'n play sleeper. Since I was still worried about the hard plastic insert causing a flat spot on her head I added a Boppy Noggin Nest (Boppy Noggin Nest Head Support, Brown Wheels) for her head. Our experience with the rock 'n play sleeper was that it's awesome for a sick baby or one with reflux. Our daughter also has reflux and I was amazed at how she would nap for long stretches of time in this sleeper than she would in her crib or a bouncy seat. She would simply snuggle into the rock n play and go right to sleep. We think it was such a hit with her because she felt like she was being cradled.There are a few differences between the sleeper we used with our daughter (see above link) and the Snugabunny "deluxe" version. The Snugabunny sleeper has a nice plush newborn insert that is the same soft fluffy material as the bunny head cushion (which is sewn onto the seat pad). While the material is very nice and will feel so soft on baby's skin, I wish they had done things a little differently. First, I'd love for the bunny head cushion to be detachable. If you have a child with reflux then you know that this attached plush head rest means you'll be tossing the seat pad in the wash frequently. Since the headrest material is plush and not the easily wipeable material for the main part of the seat cushion you won't be able to just spot clean the plush material very easily. For that reason alone, I think I prefer the non deluxe version of this sleeper. At least with that one you can add your own head support, like the noggin nest, and you can spot clean when spit up happens. The deluxe version does offer a little more cushioning in the head area because of the sewn on head support, but it's not as much as you'd have if you added your own.I was disappointed to see that the deluxe version of the sleeper does not have the handy storage pocket on the back. I liked the convenience of having the pocket to store a pacifier or burp cloth on the non-deluxe version. It would have been nice to have on the deluxe model.Assembly for this sleeper is a snap. You don't need any tools which is really nice. It took me less than five minutes to put the entire thing together and that was with my toddler "helping" me.The bunny toy that is included with the sleeper is cute. I see it as a filler item since you really don't need a toy for this piece of baby gear. Instead of adding a toy, Fisher Price could have tweaked their design a bit and offered this seat with an adjustable and detachable headrest and a nice pocket on the back of the sleeper for baby essentials. I doubt anyone would have really missed the plush rattle.The sleeper easily folds up for storage with the touch of two buttons. It's folds up compactly enough that you can slip it into a trunk along with a stroller provided your trunk isn't super small and your stroller isn't huge.I like that the pattern for this sleeper is gender neutral. The dominant colors on this sleeper are ivory and tan. There are a few light green accents.Overall, it's a nice piece of baby gear that might help you get a bit more sleep at night, especially if you have a baby with reflux. If you are thinking of using this for an extended period of time or for more than just naps, I'd strongly recommend getting some sort of head rest to help prevent flat spots.
