simple chair, great for small space and energetic toddler

We were using a portable chair on top of our kitchen chair to save space since we have a tiny house. My 16 month old daughter started rocking it and tipping (not all the way over, but getting close). We knew it was time to get something else. After we purchased this, my sister pointed out we could have transitioned her into a booster, which may be another alternative for parents out there with a young toddler. Our little one can be hard to contain, so I like the security of this chair.Most important to me, this chair is very stable. She was trying to tip it from the start, and she would get a little movement, but not as frightening as the old setup. Now, she has given up this behavior since the rocking isn't as "thrilling" as her old setup. Also, I have caught her, now 18 months, climbing up the back when not in use and it hasn't tipped (We do NOT condone this behavior, just thought it was an interesting perspective on the stability of the chair, and something else for you to consider when looking at high chairs)This chair looks neat - it is sort of industrial looking as it reminds me of a ladder. Looks tall, but it is for a regular table. If we don't use they tray, she can still sit strapped in, nice and safe. We just bought the tray, no extra accessories. The tray is long and not real wide (doesn't stick outwards far) and has a lot of surface space. The cushion it comes with is fine and wipes up clean easily. I can see this being her chair for a really long time and also happy we freed up a chair for regular guests. The footprint is ok. We have it in a high traffic area and haven't tripped on it. It doesn't fit under the table (without tray) as easily as a chair, but it is ok considering it is a high chair.I am very picky and like to see things in person, so I am not a big on-line purchaser, but they do not sell this chair locally. I am really happy with it and wish I got it sooner to save some high blood pressure moments with my daughter rocking her old chair and preventing a potentially dangerous situation sooner. I thought it was an excellent price compared to similar types of chairs. If safety, a great look, flexibility and versatility are important to you, I recommend this chair.

Designed to be looked at, not used

We've had this high chair for six months, and I've postponed writing this review because I really wanted to like this product. My wife and I were after a nice wooden high chair that would last as long as the wooden ones that our own parents still have, instead of purchasing yet another hunk of colored plastic that doesn't look as nice and would have to be thrown out after a number of years. This chair has a number of positive things going for it: the wood is of good quality and the pieces are well cut, it assembles easily, and it looks very nice, modern, and durable.However, I have rated it one star, because I have a hard time believing that the people who designed this chair actually have children, or used it for their own children. Almost all of my complaints have to do with the tray mechanism. Its worst feature is that the tray is built from two separate pieces of wood: the horizontal piece slides into a groove in the frame piece. The tray comes assembled, but the fact that it is built from two pieces means that (a) food will find its way into the groove and (b) you will never, ever be able to remove it. This is in stark contrast to other wooden high chairs, which construct the tray by carving a recession or small dip out of a single piece of wood, which allows the tray to be totally (and easily) cleaned after each meal.In addition to this defect, the tray does not seem to have been sealed very well, as the wood on ours is already starting to warp from moisture. We are pretty good about cleaning the tray soon after each meal, but still this has already started happening after only six months.Finally, the tray attaches insecurely to the chair itself. I've already had to tighten the screws that secure the tray brackets to the high chair, and imagine that I am going to have to do this fairly regularly. The latch mechanism works by lining up a peg with one of two holes drilled into the tray arm, which permits you only two depths that the tray can be secured at. The latch also does not lock very well, and I find that it is a pain to release the latch and remove the tray for cleaning at the sink (which you can't do anyway, since water would get into the groove and rot the wood).Moving on from the tray, the belts that secure your child in the chair will not do that job. The side belts clip into a middle belt that comes up between your child's leg, but because the side belts start from opposite sides of the seat (instead of in the back near the middle), a child of average intelligence can very easily scoot her way back and up to get out of the harness. We have found that we have to extend the belts all the way and cross them in back in order to keep our daughter in the chair.In summary, this high chair would be very excellent for tea parties with some stuffed animals, but if you don't want the messy business of feeding your child to be unnecessarily complicated, I'd take the money you'd spend here (which is quite a lot) and buy a different wooden chair.

First impressions--Good, not great

We put the high chair together today and put my 6 month old in it... I was disappointed that right out of the box, there was a blemish/chunk of wood missing, but it was next to the cushion hole where it will be covered so I didn't feel it warranted returning. When assembled, it looked and felt sturdy. However, I would probably recommend getting the infant insert for a 6-month old because the backrest only provides support in the upper back area (this is why they say make sure your child can sit up by themselves). The biggest problem we have so far is the safety strap-it's really cheap and difficult to unbuckle. Its also hard to adjust the length, and it does squat to keep her in the chair (the tray is what keeps her locked in).pros: sturdy, less expensive then other high-end wooden high chairs (i.e.svan, stokke), not plastic, grows with your kid, unobtrusive, US company,cons: have to pay a lot more for all the extras (cushions, tray, infant bar, infant insert), cheap safety strap

Easily the best baby item we've purchased. No regrets. HIGHLY recommended.

This chair is amazing. It is the one item we both agree is completely irreplaceable. Both sets of grandparents have different chairs at their houses for when we visit and I always end up cursing them, wishing the Boon was with us.THE PROS:For one, it's a snap to clean. I can't even imagine how much time and work it must take out of a parent's day to clean other highchairs 4-5 times a day. With this one, you seriously just wipe it down like you do your kitchen table.Then there's the wheels - the mobility you get with this chair is AWESOME. We move this chair all around the house. It's nice to be able to keep the babe nearby when I just have to run into another room for a few minutes and I need to be hands-free. Or, when I need to use the bathroom. The brake is super stable so there's no need to worry about the kid rolling away or, when they start walking - pushing it around.I like the height of the tray. Nearly every other chair we tried had the trays set way too high - at chest level. Would you want to eat at a table that came up that high?? This one is set lower so your baby can reach and see everything. (IMO, this is why one reviewer said their kids make more messes on the floor in this chair - because they can reach their food! But I don't think it's right to strap a kid down in a chair with a table up to their chins, preventing them from moving their arms freely and exploring their food.)And lastly, in addition to its functionality, it's got a very sleek, retro/space age design that SCREAMS "cool". "That is the COOLEST chair I've ever seen! Where did you get it??" I can't even count the number of times we've heard this from friends and family. The design speaks for itself. It is just so cool.THE CONS:We don't have any complaints, but I guess if I had to come up with something it would be the pneumatic feature. However, even if it worked properly we wouldn't need it - it's really no problem to just pull or push the chair into place. Since we haven't found a pressing need to move her up and down, I suppose the enormous weight of the chair (and the price, probably) could be lessened if this feature were removed. That said, we actually really love that the base is heavy. And it is HEAVY. But it makes us feel more sure of its safety. Some of the highest-rated chairs looked and felt too lightweight and flimsy to us so we actually sought out a sturdier, heavier chair.(My one other [very recently discovered and minor] complaint: That fact that Boon didn't have the Cherry Red color available when we bought ours.)COMMENTS ON OTHER REVIEWS:*Regarding the tray size - We have never felt the tray was too small. Sure, you can't fit big toys on there and too many toys get crowded and fall off but highchairs are primarily for eating, not playing. We removed the tray insert for a little more space (and fewer things to clean) but all of our dishes - adult and baby dishes - fit on the tray just fine.*Regarding tray insertion & removal - I'm surprised that some people claim they need two hands to work the tray lever. Compared all the other chairs we looked at this was BY FAR the easiest tray to work with one-handed.*Regarding the "foot rest" - I don't think it *is* a footrest. I think it's just design. *shrugs**Regarding crotch and belly tightness - Our kiddo has been 99%-tile for height and weight since day one and has never had a problem fitting in the chair.*Regarding safety - The reviews saying it's a dangerous product or that you can't use it with a squirmy child are outrageous. Ours dances and kicks and twists and boogies all the time and it never once looked like it was going to topple. There have been the occasional attempts to get out but so far no luck. And we don't even use the harness. The tray, when inserted properly, is very stable and enough to keep our squirmer in.BOTTOM LINE:We love this chair. Our kid loves this chair. It is perfect for our needs and it was worth every penny.

Easy to clean but not self clean.

This chair is so easy to clean, but if you want it to look that way, then you actually have to clean it. lol. I have the white one with the orange seat and i have to admit the white does look stained after my son eats spaghetti or anything red on it. What i do to clean it is 1.) wipe it down with a washcloth, 2.) spray "Clorox clean up spray" and just let it soak till the chair and tray look white again (couple minutes). Then rinse off the spray.. You should do that anyway to sanitize the tray.I clean the tray in the sink.Not when its still on the chair. "Note" the Orange pad does not get stained with the bleach. I have sprayed it multiple times and have never lost any color. Still looks great.It is a great chair. Since the tray is lower and closer to his waist than his chest, it makes it very hard for him to get out. Its impossible since he doesn't have enough leg room to move his leg up and around the tray. This i love! haha. My sister in law has a chair and the tray is almost to his face. Maybe it makes it easy to shovel the food in his face but my son can get out of it since he can bend his knees and then stand up.I have permanently removed the straps since my son has never attempted to get out and wouldn't be able to anyway. This way i can take the orange pad to clean it after every meal.I have a very very small apt and love this chair, since the footprint is very small and its circular so its easy to just go around it.Its true the tray is small but we have little plates that we bought and never had a problem. I love that it fits in my sink. And i have a small double sink, not a large one.

Good, but not perfect

We ordered the Boon Flair after trying out the Oxo Sprout for a few months. Neither of these high-end highchairs are perfect, which is disappointing considering their price range, but both have their benefits. We decided to keep the Boon for the following reasons:* The Boon is much better on hardwood or laminate floors. After dragging the Sprout back and forth between kitchen counter and table many times, our floor is now covered in streaks (tho not scratches.) I know this could have been fixed with better padding on the legs, but for the price of the Sprout, I expected more. The Boon's wheels let us move it back and forth effortlessly and cleanly.* The Boon adjusts in height. This is great if you're using it to feed your kid at different eating surfaces, e.g. kitchen counter and table as mentioned above. Our table also has wings, which made it too thick for us to push the Sprout up close, even without the tray on. On its lowest height, the Boon slides right under the edge of the table, which makes it feel much more like our kid is sitting and eating at the table with us.However, the Sprout is a stronger chair on a couple of points:* The Sprout has a much bigger and easier-to-use tray. It pulls out with a simple catch release, whereas the Boon requires you to slide the catch to the side before pulling. You then have to fit the two flanges on the side into the corresponding holes, which is slightly tricky and harder to do one-handed. I do however like the two tray liners that come with the Boon, which can be removed and put in the dishwasher. Basically if you use the Boon tray insert like a plate, you can get around the size limitations of the tray.* The Boon tray is set very high and close in to the kid. Our kid is pretty skinny (4th percentile), and his belly hits the tray on the biggest setting. He also drags his sleeves in his food ALL the time, since it's so close to him. So I can see why other reviewers have complained that the chair is too small for their kids. On the other hand, our eleven year old niece sat in it comfortably without the insert, so obviously it will grow with him, just minus the tray.* The Sprout has a much smaller footprint. The base of the Boon is massive, which I guess it has to be in order to keep it from tipping over. But to my mind it detracts from the cool streamlined, space-age appeal of the chair.* Superficially, I prefer the overall aesthetics of the Sprout to the Boon, though my husband feels otherwise. Plus I felt a lot better about paying ~$225 for a nice wooden chair than one made out of simple molded plastic.In the end we are keeping the Boon, and the Sprout went to grandma's house. Both are good fits for where they ended up: her chair gets used less often, and it's on a carpeted floor with a higher table, which is perfect for the Sprout. Ours is constantly in use throughout the kitchen and dining room, which have bamboo laminate on them.Like I said though, neither is perfect. If I could put the top of the Sprout on the Boon hydraulic/wheeled set-up, it might be close. It's ironic that we can put a man on the moon but still haven't designed the perfect high chair...

Love this glider!

Received this from our registry and was a little nervous, having not seen it in person and only having read a handful of reviews. It came fully assembled, which made things so much easier, and is a great compact size for a corner of the nursery. Baby should be here in a few weeks and i'm already thinking it will be a great place for breastfeeding, but also for sitting together and reading as she gets older. This will also blend in perfectly with our living room furniture once its job is done in the nursery. That was very important to me, but I also didn't want anyone looking at our registry feeling compelled to purchase a thousand dollar chair, as most of the upholstered models are!It is true that you cannot lay your head back in this glider because of the height of the back of the chair. I knew this before receiving from the reviews, but I suppose if I had not that might have been disappointing if I was hoping to sleep in it.After receiving I decided i'd love to have a gliding ottoman to go with it so I could really kick back. I considered the Babyletto Kyoto Ottoman in Mocha so it would match. Luckily, I checked the dimensions as I think the Kyoto Ottoman would be much too high compared to the seat of the Madison. I ended up purchasing the Dutailier Regular Harvest Finish Gliding Matching Ottoman, which is a great match and almost half the price! And, as an added bonus, if I put a small pillow behind my back and lay back in the Madison with my feet on the Ottoman, I CAN lay my head on the back of the seat and think I can even fall asleep in it.Highly recommended and very comfy :)

really great chair - especially for the price!

I am amazed at what a great chair this is for the price. It's very comfortable and has a great gliding motion. Also very stylish and modern - EXACTLY what I was wanting! True it's on the small side, but most nurseries are relatively small so this chair won't take up too much space. Also, my husband and I both find it quite comfortable and we're 6'5" and 6' respectively.

Very comfortable

This chair is exactly what I was looking for my son's nursery. I was working with a small space, so I wasn't fond of the other glider type chairs that are currently available. It's really beautiful and modern. I can see this being in my family for a long time! It feels really high quality. I purchased it in Ecru, the colour I think would be perfect for a boy or girl nursery. The fabric is so very soft. It's very comfortable, I cannot wait to cuddle in this chair with my son! I was worried it would bug me without a head rest, but it's so comfortable and padded it isn't needed. I also feel a foot stool isn't needed either. I can easily curl up in this chair. The gliding motion is very quiet and I really love that it swivels! Another bonus is that it comes fully assembled! Just need to take it out of it's packaging and it's ready to go! HIGHLY recommend this chair, along with Babyletto products in general!

Great high chair, adjustable and easy to use!

We watch our granddaughter during the day, and she just started to use this chair. It was easy to assemble and the bigger tray stores on the back to help save room. It is easy to clean and has different positions (up and down adjustments for height and seat positions from straight up to reclining). She even enjoys sitting in it when we are all at the table. She loves the honey pot and we put cereal in it for her. This is one of the best purchases of baby furniture we got for her!

Perfect high chair!

We have owned this high chair for about a year now, and it was a fantastic choice. It has every feature you would want, is fully adjustable, and is easy to clean. Additionally, it is comfortable for our baby and looks wonderful in our kitchen. The best part is it is extremely reasonably priced.Some highlights:1) My in-laws and parents both have chicco high chairs which cost more. I find them difficult to use, both in the folding and unfolding, and in sliding the tray into place. I have not had any such problems with this high chair. It is easy to open and close and the tray slides on easily. I also like that it has a little snack type tray when you remove the main big tray, that way you have something to put cheerios in when you're washing the main tray.2) The honey pot toy is surprisingly fun for my little guy to play with. He really loves flipping it up and down, it entertains him for a really long time. He will also place pieces of food in it, he seems to think that is very funny.3) The seat itself reclines back. We have used it mostly in upright position, but it is handy to have the option.4) There are different height options if you want to place it more at table level.5) Everything on it is easy to clean.6) I agree with reviewers who have complained about the basket -- once we started our baby on finger foods, we cut it off as it cannot come off easily to clean. But it was nice before he was eating as I just used it as a place to put him in the kitchen. If he dropped a toy he was playing with, the basket caught it without it ever falling on the floor.

WONDERFUL & CUTE high chair!

This is a GREAT high chair. It's easy to assemble and it opens and closes easily. The height adjust and the recline are also easy to use. I got this for my child to use at my parents house while we're visiting, which is pretty often for Sunday meals, etc. She started using it a little while ago and it's a great high chair and it's so cute. The hunny pot is great for play and keeping cereal in. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a great high chair and for a great price. Thanks Safety 1st!

So cute!!

My grandson's birthday was the 24th of this month (April) the order said it would arrive between the 24th and May 4th...I took a chance in hopes it would come sooner and it did!!! Came on the 22nd!! In time for the birthday!!The furniture is so heavy, very strong made, the frame is wood.The fabric seems fine just have to watch that little ones do not poke it with anything and push on the backs.The backs just have a piece of black fabric stapled to it not much support to the backs, that I don't like, but other than that it does seem like it is pretty durable, just right for little toddlers. My granddaughters who are 6 and three thought they could sit in it and although they can it is just way too small for them. Perfect for my one year old grandson. He climbs on it and if he falls it won't hurt as this sits very close to the floor.The legs were easy to put on.A good buy!

Pretty Sturdy toy.

I got this toy for my 11 month old daugther to help improve her walking. She will not sit in her walker so I thought this would be more fun for her. She did learn fast how to push herself in it (it took her a few days) she likes to push it more than ride it, but it goes to fast for her to push it alone so I have to hold her hand. I looked for a lot of walking/riding toys and most seemed flimzy or not study enough, but this riding toy is pretty sturdy. It's kind of a low to the ground toy. My daugther just turned one and she's already getting too tall for it (her feet drag when she tries to push it, but she is a little taller than average).

very practical

I love this ride-on toy. I had been looking around in target, toys r us etc for a simple ride-on, but they all had really fancy expensive things. This one is great. Inexpensive, simple and very sturdy, and my 18 month old loves scooting around on it on the deck. It's only weakness is that it doesn't really steer, but she figured out pretty quickly to just get off and move it when she runs into something. It seems more or less unbreakable to me, and totally weatherproof. I definitely recommend it for entertaining active toddlers.

Durable, cute, and safe

We got this for our 15 month old son this past Christmas. I wanted a push/ride toy for him to have on our patio outside since we don't have a yard and we live in a small apartment. I wanted one that wouldn't get water inside all the parts and that would hold up to weather and abuse. This was perfect. It is well made with big wheels and a wide enough base that I have never had to worry about it toppling over on him. It requires no assembly, which is an added bonus. It doesn't have all the gizmos and features as a lot of other similar toys but that was actually part of the appeal to me. Overall, I am happy we went with this product.
